Abstract
MRI patient setup remains a key bottleneck for workflow efficiency and standardization. We propose an integrated framework combining Radiology Information System (RIS)-derived scan intent with real-time 3D camera-based patient and coil verification to streamline MRI setup. The system interprets multi-language RIS inputs to infer anatomy and laterality, and cross-checks this intent with camera-observed patient positioning and coil placement, enabling detection of mismatches prior to scan initiation. The workflow was evaluated across 21 scenarios by four experts, achieving 93% acceptance with high inter-rater agreement (Gwet’s AC1 = 0.93). Framewise evaluation demonstrated accurate guidance across intent verification, positioning, and collision detection tasks. Representative scan evidence shows improved anatomical coverage in musculoskeletal and cardiac imaging while avoiding unnecessary prompts for correct setups. These results demonstrate the potential of RIS-aware camera guidance to reduce setup variability and improve scan consistency. Future work will focus on multi-site validation and quantitative image-quality analysis.
